New Products In-Store Now!

As the Christmas season approaches, we are working on a list of gift ideas and will be posting several updates over the next few weeks.    Here is our first instalment – new items in store.      Due to the uncertain conditions we are currently living in, we have noticed a number of customers wanting to get their christmas shopping done early.   Our store is open Monday to Saturday 10-4.  Please come down and visit.   If you would rather, we are still offering curbside pick-up.    We can mail TEA orders to you – or to whomever you want us to mail to i.e. if it is a gift we can mail it direct to the recipient.  Give us a call at 250-492-5121.   See our Tea Menu Here. Below is a list of some brand new products we have added some fun new products to our store this fall.  Stayed tuned for even more to come! Gurgle Pots This is actually an item that is back by popular demand.   These gurgle pots do just what they suggest – they “gurgle” when you pour from them.  They can be used for flower vases, wine decanters, a water jug at the dinner table, or anything else your imagination can come up with.   They come in multiple colours. MotherLove Kombucha MotherLove Ferments, a local brewer from Kelowna BC, has created a wonderful Kombucha that carries our very own butterfly pea tea as its flavour base.    It can be found in our refrigerator, and is ready for drinking. Wayuu Bags direct from Columbia These bags are handmade in Columbia and personally selected by Claire from her travels there this past winter (before the Covid closures).     Each bag is very unique.   Of course, there is a limited supply, as one can only fit so many in a suitcase.    Great gift idea.  Even for yourself. Mixture Candles Simple, beautiful, clear glass containers filled with 100% renewable wax and hand-mixed with your favourite Mixture fragrances.  They come in multiple colours, and can be hung on fixtures. So Much More…. Stay tuned.  As we move into the winter season we expect to present more gift suggestions,…  some new, and some that we’ve kept re-stocking as they are so popular, – like our Turkish Lamps, and of course, our many hand-woven Rugs.    And don’t forget about our TEA!

August Update and Iced Tea Recipe

Things are going well at the store.  We are maintaining our hours for in-person shopping…  10-4 weekdays and 9-3 Saturday. We are closed Sunday and Monday.    We are still also accepting by-mail or pick-up orders if you choose not to come down in person. It’s been hot here in Penticton these past few weeks.   Drinking lots of water?  Don’t forget there’s lots of choices to make an interesting and TASTY ICED TEA. Simple and quick iced tea: In a small saucepan, bring the 2-1/4 cups water to a gentle boil. Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea strainer of your choice, Remove the saucepan from the heat, and Cover. Steep for 15 minutes. Remove the tea strainer or tea bags without squeezing them (which would add bitterness) and pour the steeped tea into a 2-1/2-quart heatproof container (like a large Pyrex liquid measure). Add 6 cups cold water and mix. Let cool at room temperature and then refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice, garnished with your choice of additives including sugar, lemon wedges, and mint sprigs.

Our Afternoon Visit From a “Cash Mob”

Teas and Weaves was surprised and very happy to be selected for the Chamber of Commerce’s very first “Cash Mob” event.    A large number of “shoppers” descended upon Teas and Weaves Thursday, October 24,  to not only support our local business, but to experience some selective discounts on merchandise, and to receive a personal gift bag of specially chosen Tea for the occasion. The cash mob is a new initiative by our local Chamber of Commerce.   The “mob” meets at a neutral place 15 minutes before the event, and are then told where the special “cash mob” will be taking place that day.  Each shopper commits to spending $20 at the venue chosen, while the merchant will often go out of their way to create a worthwhile shopping experience, with something specially created, or set aside just for the “mob”.   This is a win-win for everybody.  Meet new people.  Learn more about local businesses.  And receive special treatment in the form of discounts or other great opportunities.

Tea is “Brainfood”?

If you are reading this, you probably already agree that Tea is a wonderful beverage option.  Whether you drink a lot, or just a little.  Tea is incredibly diverse.  There are so many different options to choose from, depending on what mood you are in, or what kind of effect you want to have on your body.    Two tea drinkers may not like the same kinds of tea at all.   They may not have the same taste in anything.   Yet they have one main thing in common:  they like Tea. A recent study suggests that there may be an even more compelling reason to like tea.   The positive impact it has on your brain.  Especially an aging brain.   Researchers studied a number of elderly people and concluded that regular indulgence in teas such as black tea, oolong tea, and green tea can have a very positive effect on brain connectivity as you age.   Slowing age-related hinderances such as memory loss. Read the full article here: “Our results offer the first evidence of positive contribution of tea drinking to brain structure, and suggest that drinking tea regularly has a protective effect against age-related decline in brain organization,” explains Feng Lei, an assistant professor in the psychological medicine department at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. Past studies have demonstrated that tea intake is beneficial to human health, and the positive effects include mood improvement and cardiovascular disease prevention. In fact, results of a 2017 longitudinal study that Feng led showed that daily consumption of tea can reduce the risk of cognitive decline in older persons by 50%. “We have shown in our previous studies that tea drinkers had better cognitive function as compared to non-tea drinkers. Our current results relating to brain network indirectly support our previous findings by showing that the positive effects of regular tea drinking are the result of improved brain organization brought about by preventing disruption to interregional connections,” https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/09/tea-protection-against-brain-decline/

What is Pink Bee Honey?

We are excited to announce we are carrying a new product in stock – Pink Bee Honey.   We are now an exclusive distributor for this product in Penticton and the surrounding area.     What is Pink Bee Honey?  Pink Bee (granulated) honey is a natural sweetener, combining unrefined cane sugar with honey.  It looks much like regular granulated sugar, but has all the benefits of “real” honey..    Pink Bee Honey has a smooth honey flavour, and is easier to use than regular honey as you don’t have to worry about the sticky, tacky mess.    This sweetener tastes great in tea, coffee, smoothies, cocktails, sauces, desserts, yogurt, and could also be used as a cooking rub. There is an unlimited shelf life for this crystallized honey.   Just be sure to store it sealed in cool and dry conditions for optimum usage. The Perfect Combination:  Cane Sugar and Honey Cane sugar is an all natural ingredient that complements the great honey flavour without the need of additives or other less healthy substitutes like processed white sugar or corn fructose. Pure honey is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture easily) and becomes sticky and clumps almost instantly. Cane sugar is less hygroscopic than honey, making it easier to dry into a granulated form. By combining the cane sugar with pure honey you get Pink Bee Honey, a true honey flavour that maintains a granulated powder form that is perfect for beverages, cooking and baking. Pink Bee Honey can be used anytime you would normally add sugar.   In celebration, we have a cocktail suggestion for those who love to indulge in the occasional beverage.     If you do not like alcohol, why not check out our non-alcohol alcohol product – Seedlip Spice.  Non-alcohol distilled spirits. Blue Butterfly cocktail Al La Teas & Weaves Mix a double shot of gin or vodka with a simple syrup infused with butterfly pea flower tisane, a stick of pink honey and sparkling water and hey presto!  A sippable long drink!   If you are looking for an alternative to processed sugar, or something different in the form of a sweetener, come visit us at Teas and Weaves and check it out, .
